Where to book a NIE appointment online

The only official channel is the sede electrónica of the public administration, under the cita previa de extranjería section. You pick a province, select your procedure and the system shows the offices with availability. It is free and, for most cases, does not require a digital certificate.

Mind the exact procedure: the NIE assignment (form EX-15, the one you need to obtain the number for the first time) is handled by designated Policía Nacional stations, while TIE fingerprinting (form EX-17) is a different appointment. Picking the wrong procedure is the most common mistake and it wastes the visit.

Why there are never any NIE appointments

Three things stack up. First, demand far exceeds the slots offices publish, and new batches sell out in minutes. Second, a large share of openings is captured by intermediaries who resell the appointment for 150 to 300 EUR, an illegal but widespread practice. Third, cancellations trickle back throughout the day, so checking once a day almost guarantees you see nothing.

The practical consequence: an empty calendar right now does not mean no appointments are released. It means they are released and taken before you look again.

NIE appointment in Barcelona: which offices

In the province of Barcelona the NIE assignment is spread across several designated police stations. You do not choose the office in advance: the system shows the sites with open slots for your procedure and you pick among them. If Barcelona shows nothing, check Girona and Tarragona, which release slots more often than people assume.

And there is a route almost nobody uses: the EX-15 NIE assignment can be requested in any province in Spain. Small offices like Soria, Teruel or Ávila often have appointments within days. If you can travel once, it is the fastest path there is.
